Unique tread design

ContiSportContact 2 has a strikingly clear tread design allowing no compromises. The asymmetrical pattern guarantees maximum ground adhesion in any driving situation. This is ensured by the closed outer shoulder section and the pronounced strips of tread rubber around the tyre's circumference. Another benefit of this tread design is that it delivers extremely precise steering response, both on bends taken at high speeds and when driving on the straight.

The circumferential tread strips are much stiffer than individual tread blocks. So Conti's tyre engineers were able to use a softer tread compound. By combining the solid tread strips with the soft compound, tyre mileage performance could be enhanced to a high level.

Innovative silica tread compound

For some years now, silica has been one of the standard ingredients of tread compounds for high-performance tyres in the premium segment.

Our ContiSportContact 2 tyre features a newly developed bionic compound. This tread compound consists of two perfectly harmonised networks a flexible one and a firm one. The flexible network ensures maximum transmission of forces between the tyre and road surface, while the firm network provides the necessary stiffness for precise handling performance, above all at high speeds.

Our customers benefit from the tyre's greater safety reserves during braking and cornering, as well as when driving on wet and dry surfaces.

Bionic contour (AMC)

Thanks to its bionic contour (Advanced Mould Concept), the ContiSportContact 2 achieves more uniform ground-pressure distribution and hence greater adhesion than its predecessor.

At the same time, the contour provides the largest possible ground contact area when the car is braking. This ensures a much shorter braking distance on wet and dry roads, and means more safety for the car occupants.

Cat's paws and spider's cobwebs

When optimising the distribution of tyre forces on the road, our tyre engineers oriented their ideas on the wonders of nature.

For the tyre's contour, they took the well-known model of the cat's paw used for the ContiPremiumContact and advanced that technology with the aid of extensive test procedures. A cat's paw widens when the cat brakes, thus transmitting more force to the ground than it would if the cat were walking, or in our case, if the car were driving normally. We have been able to enhance this performance characteristic by applying our new Advanced Mould Concept (AMC) to the contour of the tyre. The ContiSportContact 2 enlarges more than average during a braking manoeuvre and thus causes more rubber to make contact with the tarmac, which in turn shortens the braking distance.

The tread compound is also responsible for optimum grip (adhesion between the tyre and the road surface).

A cobweb is one of nature's most flexible constructions. Structural threads running from the edges into the centre make for high stability, while the web's flexibility comes from the catch threads woven in circles.

Our engineers have applied this principle to the tyre. The tread compound consists of two precisely matched networks, each of which has its own job to do. The flexible network provides a strong degree of interlocking with the road surface, while the firm network delivers the necessary stiffness for the tyre's tread.

For our customers, this means excellent transmission of forces to wet and dry roads, plus precise handling, especially at high speeds
